Accessing Medicare Rebates
Under the Australian Government's Better Access initiative, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates for psychological services. Here's how it works:
Visit Your GP
Ask your GP to prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP). This is a standard appointment.
Get a Referral
Your GP will provide a referral to a psychologist as part of the MHTP. Bring this to your first session.
Claim Your Rebate
After each session, you'll receive an invoice to claim your rebate through Medicare (online, app, or in person).
How many sessions can I claim?
Under the current Medicare scheme, you can access up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year with a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral from your GP. Your GP will review your progress after the first 6 sessions.
Your First Appointment
Here's what to bring to your first session:
- Your Mental Health Treatment Plan and GP referral
- Your Medicare card
- Any relevant medical or psychological reports
- A list of current medications (if applicable)
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, discuss what brings you in, and begin shaping a plan for your care.
Cancellation Policy
I understand that things come up. However, I do ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.
Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed appointments without notice, may incur the full session fee. This is because the reserved time cannot be offered to another client at short notice.
Exceptions may be made for emergencies — please get in touch and we can discuss.
